Today I started my journey of 12 steps to Whole Foods! I am using the Green Smoothie Girl book!! You can purchase this book at greensmoothiegirl.com. My goal is to complete all her 12 steps this year!! Today we started off with green smoothies this morning. I even got Ada, my 15mo old daughter to drink a small, watered down version; and she loved it!!
My goals are as follows:
1. increase my energy level
2. get my hubby off mtn dew; or at least decrease his intake (this will be a tough one!)
3. maintain my body weight
4. take myself completely off caffeine of any kind
I never thought I'd be a blogger, but I figured this would be a good way to keep myself accountable!
This was my green smoothie this morning! I have portioned greens and put them in the freezer so all I have to do is pull out a bag and throw them in the blender. This smoothie was a mixture of greens, 1/4 of a lemon, agave, water, strawberries, blue berries and a banana! It looks more green than I have had before, but it was delicious!
why would you want to take the husband of Mountain Dew? and your self of Caffeine?
ReplyDeleteit's one of the worst sodas you can drink!! plus the health issues...caffeine depletes your body of calcium among other things....which can lead to osteoporosis later in life! (don't you know all this med student?! LOL)
ReplyDeleteDental...you need to weigh the benefits and risks. If MD makes your husband feel good don't mess with it. The bad effects of caffeine are not additive and often are a result of excess and not use. In moderation it has more benefits than you may think but not necessary. So don't cut it out just because of the osteoporosis fact. Also there are plenty meds to take care of bone resorption.
ReplyDeleteDental....the better profession.
ReplyDelete(You can tell Chris I said that)
Sally! You did it! I am sooo excited! I will be reading every day! Yay! AND, when I come home from the states and you are busy some days I would love to do some guest posts of different recipes!
ReplyDeletePS... I am totally jonesing for that green smoothie! Or ANY green smoothie to be honest!
Hey Arturo, what about the risks of osteonecrosis from from the use of the bisphosphonates? Best to go the preventive route!
ReplyDeleteGood one mom! lol!
ReplyDeleteSally, PS have I told you... I haven't had soda in two months since I found out I was pregnant! I think that's a record for me!
1. What about the risks of osteonecrosis from bisphosphonate use? Incidence is 0.000007%...not much there.
ReplyDelete2. Caffeine as a chelator...not buying it in the normal doses taken. If concerned drink some milk.
3. There are many more things one needs to be concerned of other than caffeine that would cause such problems...long term studies would be very difficult to do to isolate caffeine and its effects in humans.
4. If LH likes his Dew...all I'm saying is let him have his drink.
5. Drink Milk as a preventative...
-Good one Arturo!
Alright Arturo, new information also links high animal protein diets with increased osteoporosis as thoroughly studied by Dr. Colin Campbell in the best seller "The China Study" Easy on the dairy! haha
ReplyDeleteand you trust things outta China? One glass of milk not excessive...depends what you consider High? Excessive quantities of water is harmful! Easy on the H2O!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha! Read it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI will...
ReplyDeletesend the link...
bsphosphonates (sp?) are not the only option for osteoporosis...
YEAH..that's a book. Not reading that.
ReplyDeleteOh, and let's not even go into the link between excess milk consumption and increased rate of prostate cancer. And I do have a copy of the China Study you can borrow. And caffeine and sugar are not the only osteoporosis contributors in Mountain Dew!!! The acid are not our friends either
ReplyDeleteyou guys crack me up!! i didn't think my blog would create such controversy!! LOL good times! :)
ReplyDeletehaha! You should see the texting trail!
ReplyDeletethat is what i'm saying...pointing fingers at caffeine, i'm defending my little friend. You guys brought up osteoporosis not me and it was a weak point.
ReplyDeleteIn MD, fine I'm not saying its the best thing in the world but if it is not the worst vice to have. There are ways to combat the acid if you want to get into that I'd be happy to...its not like he's rinsing his mouth with MD.
Next thing your going to jump on hamburgers and hot dogs...I'm sure Sr. Hunt would back me up on that one...
